Teaching Your Dog To Sit
The sit command is one of the most basic but crucial commands in your dogs life. It is needed for many activities and if taught correctly, it can prevent danger.
Here are the easy steps on how to teach you dog to sit:
1. Call your dog to come to you, holding and showing, a food treat in your hand, do this very calmly and try not to excite your dog as this will cause trouble.
2. When your dog reaches you, slowly move the treat up and over its head. The puppy will sit in order to keep its eyes on the food treat. As it is doing so, give the command sit just when you see it starting to bend its hind legs.
3. Reinforce the sit command from the side and to the from of the puppy. Each time reward him with verbal praise as well as food treats.
4. Gradually, over time reduce the amount of food treats you are rewarding and only give him verbal or physical praise, but remember not to play with him during training, only after so that he knows when it has ended.
Over time, if you do this within three sessions a day for around 10-15 minutes each session, your dog will learn to sit within a few day or for some dogs a few weeks or a bit more, it is entirely dependant on how you and your dog cooperate!
I hope this helps!
